Age Group: Mature (to handle topics being discussed) - 21 years old

Time: 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Location: ARC of Shelby County

This group is designed to explore issues that just girls will face as they mature.   Topics will include need for girlfriends, in-depth conversation skills, sexuality, flirting, dating, self-reliance and advocacy, building self worth, transitional living, appropriate social networking, birth control, reading body language of others, using body language as signals to others, and more.  Many of our female clients can be naive, including the message they are sending to others and interpreting intentions of others. We will explore these issues in a 12-week class.  Lessons will utilize popular movie clips for discussion, primarily for reading body language and interpreting intentions.  There will be a lot of stopping and starting of movie clips as well as discussion and lessons on the topics outlined above.  Please communicate any concerns with movie content that might be shown in advance with Kerry Mataya.

Parents will be informed of movies and topics discussed for debriefing at home after the session.  Issues can be discussed with parents if child is under 17 years old or younger; however, will do so in meeting format for open discussion with child.  Personal discussions of participants 18 years and older will not be discussed with parents unless participant has signed a release giving permission.  This group will be lead by Kerry Mataya, M.S.Ed.

Class Tuition: $200/ 12 week program (Thursday, August 19 - Thursday, November 4)
